Our Core Values & Beliefs
These core values drive who we hire, how we make decisions and what we do every day
We did not wake up one morning and decide we have these eight beliefs. It’s more
like they revealed themselves over the course of the first months and years of the
company. They became apparent in hundreds and thousands of decisions made over the
course of our daily business activities. Most of these decisions were made (certainly
all of them in the early years) without a conscious effort to follow these eight
core values. But in hindsight, all of our decisions (at least all of our good decisions!)
have hewed extremely closely to these eight ideas.
As a necessary part of a growing organization there comes a time when important
decisions are made every day by more and more people. By explicitly spelling out
what we believe in, it allows us as a company to grow past the core handful of
original pioneers. It allows us to devolve decision making to our front line staff,
safe in the knowledge that the corporate belief structure is being followed.
This is why it’s crucial that we put these values down on paper. That we include
them here on our website. That we create large decals and posters listing them and
put them on the walls of our offices and that our newly hired employees sign an
agreement to do their best to live by them each and every day.

1. We believe in adding client value
Our most important core value. At its most basic, we believe our clients receive far more value from each and every interaction they have with the Knowland Group than they pay in subscription or service fees; that we provide solutions in the form of products and services to improve the value of our clients' businesses because, at the end of the day, it's all about the clients. More than any other constituency (employees, shareholders, management, the community) adding value to our clients is the most important thing we do. If we are unable to add value for our clients, then our reason for existence ceases. |
2. We believe in innovation
Innovation is key to who we are. It is hard-wired into our corporate DNA. Integral to our corporate culture and purpose, innovation occurs every hour of every day we are in operation. This means more than just having insanely great programmers on staff or a CEO/founder who is a software engineer. It means we believe in pushing the envelope. In thinking hard. In figuring out new and novel approaches to entrenched business practices. Both internally, in how we handle our daily operations; and externally, in how we constantly seek to improve the solutions we offer our clients. |
3. We believe in giving great customer service
In order for our clients to fully receive the benefits of our first two corporate values, we must provide great customer service. Not just good, but great customer service. It is the job of all of our employees to make sure our customers have great experiences when interacting with the Knowland Group. |
4. We believe in hiring great people who want to achieve great things
We seek to hire great people. We believe in finding, training, managing, mentoring and working with smart, motivated people with strong work ethics. But more importantly, we look for individuals who are motivated by achievement. We strive to find people who have realized that one of the greatest joys in life is to work hard towards a challenging goal. And one of the only things more rewarding than getting up every day with a purpose and a desire to work towards one’s goal is the achievement of that goal! |
5. We believe in and embrace change
We embrace positive change. We believe in improving entrenched business practices for our client’s benefit. Moreover, we are not afraid of change in how we handle business in our day to day operations. We honestly and forthrightly confront the facts regarding our operations and make the necessary changes required to work towards our mission, and live our purpose. We embrace change in an educated and disciplined manner. |
6. We believe that competition makes us better
Competition focuses the mind, rallies the team and energizes the spirit. Just as it does for our clients, competition challenges us every day to improve what we do. We believe in fair competition on a level playing field. Where companies and individuals make balanced judgments on solutions that will best serve the needs of their businesses. Our competitors force us to work harder, faster and smarter and, in the end, our clients receive greater value from our products and services because of this. |
7. We believe in creating a 'wow' factor with all of our products and services
We never seek to be slightly better than our competition. We strive to offer solutions that are amazingly better. Demonstrably better for dozens and dozens of reasons. We seek to have solutions that are so much better than our competition that our clients and prospects are ‘wow’ed by them. In many instances our solutions include features, tools, concepts and ideas completely new to the marketplace. Much more than bells and whistles, these items are designed to provide real, well-thought out, demonstrable benefits to our clients. We seek to offer solutions that help our clients work so much smarter and faster than they are used to that they are blown away by the possibilities. They are ‘wow’ed. |
8. We believe business technology should be easy to use and a little bit fun
We believe in technology that gets used, both frequently and correctly. We believe that easy and intuitive user interfaces and fun and engaging features are crucial to our clients receiving the full value of our solutions; because these things mean are solutions will get used. And used correctly. |
