At Knowland, we believe it’s important to foster a strong community of people who support and rely on one other. As part of that effort, we’ve implemented several companywide initiatives to share in our experiences and success. We use these opportunities to motivate employees to sustain healthy lifestyles, form positive work relationships, and perform with excellence. Knowland wants all of our employees to thrive within the company, enjoy their work, and feel good about doing so.

In the Know

SFA Every two weeks Knowland releases a new edition of In the Know, our internal newsletter. The newsletter recognizes Knowland’s most recent achievements, announces updates to our products, and features employees of the week. It also identifies new hires, recent news articles featuring Knowland, and industry trends.

In the Know provides employees with important information so that they can stay up-to-date on how we’re changing the travel industry with our innovative products. Each department plays a key role in the success of Knowland so it’s imperative that all employees stay current on the latest company and industry news. A key characteristic of being a “Knowland Person” is having the thirst for this knowledge.



Knowland Fitness

In March of 2010, Knowland hired former Mr. Maryland Dave Kergaard as our corporate trainer to help our employees improve their health and wellness. CEO Mike McKean was inspired to create the first Knowland Fitness Challenge after achieving his personal fitness goals with Kergaard’s assistance.Customer Relationship ManagementThe challenge began in March and ended in June with a total of 100 pounds and 100 inches lost! That figure doesn’t include the employees whose goals were to add muscle and bulked up. The top finalists won prizes, including paid time off, a trip for two on the corporate plane to a client hotel of their choice, and gift cards to local sporting goods stores.

Even though the challenge ended, Knowland has kept Kergaard on board to help employees maintain healthy lifestyles and motivate them to stay with the lifelong changes they made. He works with each employee individually in order to create a personal fitness plan that best suits their specific wellness goals. Kergaard also writes a column in Knowland’s internal newsletter providing health advice and fitness tips.



Town Hall Meetings

Each quarter a meeting is sponsored by a department within Knowland who present a description of what their job entails and how it relates to our core values. CEO Mike McKean kicks off each town hall meeting with a few words of wisdom, followed by fun community events such as bowling, mini-golf, and dinner. These gatherings are a fun way for employees to learn more about the company, each other, and themselves. Customer Relationship Management

They allow employees from all departments to learn about other facets of Knowland and enable them to understand their role in the company’s success. The town hall meetings encourage the meeting sponsor to express their creativity and show off their talents whether they perform a skit, produce a video, or compile an entertaining presentation. They are a fun way to foster growth for individual employees and the Knowland community as a whole.



Community Page

Can’t get enough of status updates? Knowland not only promotes this practice; we provide an internal social networking community for employees to creatively express themselves.Customer Relationship Management Build a profile; write a blog post; comment on other employees’ updates; upload pictures and videos; send messages. The community allows each employee to establish and personalize their own content for their peers to view and explore.

They are also able to use the site to show support for peers or congratulate them on a job well done. They can use it to ask for advice about how to tackle a challenging task. New employees may use it to get to know the workplace atmosphere. The community is simply provided for employees to utilize to their benefit in learning about what their peers are up to and the latest Knowland news. The community pages are a great way for all of us working at different office locations to stay connected.
